Not made in Britain: the Mini Clubman

While BMW trumpeted the news that its gorgeous CS concept will go into production, the announcement that the Mini Clubman will not be built in Britain was met with a more muted response.
The Mini has been a raging success for BMW, but this will be the first time it has been built outside Britain.
Last [...]

Seeing double

Or what not to do on the motorway.

I was heading back into London on the traffic-ridden M4 yesterday, in my dad’s Focus, when a pantomime-esque scene unfolded.
I couldn’t help but notice a guy jump out of a black mk 5 Golf next to us and run across the left verge to answer a call of [...]

Let’s off-road

It’s gripped, it’s locked - let’s off-road.

We get to go on some great days out here at Auto Trader - screaming through the streets of London with the traffic police and a day in a Ferrari Dino spring to mind. This time we’ve been 4×4 driving at Rockingham Motor Speedway in Northamptonshire - in a [...]

Our man on Lewis Hamilton’s F1 title chances

I get to interview some very interesting people for Auto Trader. Murray Walker and Jason Plato have been among my favourites.
But this weekend the tables were turned as I appeared on Sidepodcast – a weekly show for F1 fans.
There was no shortage of F1 news to talk about – McLaren’s whopping fine and unprecedented punishment, [...]

Talent spotting

It’s every racer’s worst nightmare.
I’m sat on pole position. The lights are red and a dozen karts are lined up behind me. The lights turn green, I mash my right foot hard against the throttle pedal and…
Nothing.
The engine dies and every single one of my rivals blasts off around the course.
Not the best way to [...]

Tarantino goes banger racing

Think movie directors and who springs to mind? Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, Ridley Scott etc.
So when news reached our ears here at Auto Trader towers that Pulp Fiction director Quentin Tarantino was in Wimbledon, we got interested.
He was down to promote his new schlock-horror flick Death Proof by partaking in a spot of celebrity banger [...]

Drive an M3 for free

Well, a virtual one.
BMW has just released the M3 challenge game, which lets you burn 3D rubber across Germany’s classic Nürburgring circuit.

We’ve been testing it out, and we have to say - it’s not bad. The game engine is the same as GT Legends, with emphasis on realism and control rather than speed and [...]

The Ultimate supercar? I hope not

The SSC Ultimate Aero TT stole the Bugatti Veyron’s ‘World’s fastest car’ crown by 2mph last week when it hit 255mph.
That’s 55mph faster than the iconic Ferrari F40 of the Eighties and 210mph quicker than the first mass-produced car - the Ford Model T.

People criticise supercar makers for glamorising speed, but you’ve got to admire [...]

Motorbike training gone wrong, then right

If you want to ride a motorbike, make sure you’ve got the correct driving license before you go for your Compulsory Basic Training (CBT).

Otherwise you’ll end up taking it on a 50cc moped rather than a 125cc motorbike. That’s what happened to me yesterday.

Due to an admin error on my license, I had a ‘twist [...]

Hello Mr Johnson

It’s funny who you bump into on your way to the supermarket.

We were going about our daily business yesterday when who should turn up but Tory MP and London mayoral hopeful Boris Johnson.
Mr Johnson was holding court in Wimbledon as part of a whistle-stop tour of London boroughs.

Look out for our exclusive interview with Boris [...]
