We’ve revamped our used car search tool – here’s a quick guide to how to use it.
The new system makes it easier for you to see how many different types of car are available in your area. And you can narrow down your search to find the car you want.
The new search tool
To get started, just enter your post code:

Set up your search
You can add as many details about the car you’re looking for as you want – you don’t even have to specify a make or model.
In this example we’re looking for a Seat Leon on sale for between £10,000 and £30,000:

Find the cars in your area
It’s found over 1,000 cars matching that search in our area. Now we can search by body type, engine size, fuel type, colour and others:

Refine your results
Now we’ve narrowed down our search to yellow Leons up to one year old, with five doors and a petrol engine of 2 to 2.5 litres. Even with all those restrictions, there are still 14 cars that match our request:

Hi Keith,
First off I’m very happy to see speedy feedback relational to the thread from Auto trader staff…so well done on that.
I have a couple of questions if you please?
First…why are your screen shots in the old Auto Trader style and not the new version? Is there any relevance to this…and could it be percieved as a possible return to the old site, or is it simply that your test area hasn’t been updated yet?
And…Can you ask one of your colleagues to add comment and reply to the most popular thread where 200+ comments are waiting for a reply to their many frustrations about the changes made to the “new site”. In brief trade and public customers are walking away from your business simply because they percieve what they use to be broken, have been invited to comment here on line, and after doing so have been completely ignored.
I’m really hoping you can put that right as you clearly undertsand that the feedback is a two way process.
Many thanks and sorry to hijack your thread to get answers to someone elses
Steve
This article was written in October 2007 before the current version of the site was created (see the date by the headline).

Thanks for the feedback! Regarding the search on mileage, we are looking into why that’s happening.
Should drill down, in principle, to precise requirements but please review your search mechanism – have been looking for car with less than 60,000 miles and search has thrown up cars with 120K, 180,000miles etc. and cars without mileage given (usually indicatative of a higher mileage) – therefore frustrating. The previous system actually seemed to work better!
This makes searching so much easier, why didnt you do this years ago? I regularly look through the ads to see what car I can get next, and now I can cut right down to the specific model I am interested in. Well done Auto Trader, yet again you jump ahead of the competition.
