The furore over fuel which may yet decide the F1 championship should not overshadow a stunning performance by Lewis Hamilton and a clinical drive to victory by Kimi Raikkonen.
Raikkonen is the champion for now, pending an investigation into yesterday’s result.
The Finn stormed to victory in his Ferrari in Brazil yesterday with team mate Felipe Massa right behind him and closest challenger Fernando Alonso almost a minute in arrears.
Meanwhile Hamilton blasted through the pack to finish within ten seconds of winning the title.
He passed car after car in a thrilling display of bravery, risking disaster with every move. Hamilton flew past home hero Rubens Barrichello from an impossible distance in a move which must rank as one of the best of the season.
It brought back memories of Michael Schumacher’s final race at the same circuit last year when he too dropped to the back of the field before passing rival after rival.
Raikkonen and Hamilton showed us how championships should be fought for – by racers who dazzle us with their sporting prowess, not by squabbling over the minutiae of the rules in a darkened courtroom.
I bet Hamilton would rather be champion on the track than on appeal.
Did you watch the F1 title decider? Does Kimi Raikkonen or Lewis Hamilton deserve the title?

George, do you really believe in luck? Funny thing how skilled drivers seem to benefit from such good luck, and poor drivers always seem to have such bad luck.
How can you Kimi deserved to win when he didn’t? He was just given the place by his team mate. If you think that he would have won if Massa and Ferrari hadn’t ‘arranged’ it, then I guess you’ll be asking Father Christmas for a Ferrari for Christmas!
No way Chisoni,
Are you saying Lewis’s nerves caused his gearbox to fail?
Sure he made a mistake after being boxed in by Massa and Raikonen, but he came back from 18 to 7th. He should have won, there were far too many things going against him yesterday.
For him to make back so many places showed him to be 110% worthy of the title, his overtaking was astounding.
Why do people find it easier to know him than admire his skill and talent? It doesn’t matter anyway, since I suspect he’ll show all of us over the next couple of years, and put his talent beyond question, though I feel that he has really done that already as much as you could possibly expect.
Somebody point out another driver in the history of F1 who’s done so much in their debut season?
I’m waiting?
Yeah, thought so, I’m not going to hold my breath.
Nerves got the best of Hamilton…lost concentration coming into turn 2,was shocked to see 2 cars pass him and everthing jus went pear shaped for him,he should have kept calm..Gear box problems made it worse.
I blame Hamilton and Mclarean for yesterdays mishaps..Hamilton should have taken the title..he worked hard all season jus to let it go in the last 2 races of the season
Kimi deserve the title more than Louis. Louis was lucky all year long and a lot of times was helped by the FIA. Unfortunately for him his luck ended in Brazil giving him problems that other drivers had all year long that helped him earn points. Even after the finish of the race FIA tried to give him the title but BMW and Williams weren’t disqualified and that makes KIMI World Champion.
Just for the record, clearly Kimi does not deserve the title, apart from all I’ve mentioned above, Ferrari clearly manipulated the situation to allow Kimi to win instead of Massa, so he didn’t really win on the track, he was just handed the victory by his team mate!
Ferrari found a clever way to get around the prohibition on team orders, but in doing so they make a mockery of the ‘sport’ of F1.
Can’t we all just accept that someone else won? There’s no point trying to blame other drivers and teams for wanting to win. McLaren decided their pit stop strategy, not Bernie Ecclestone.
To suggest there was a conspiracy theory is preposterous. We should congratulate Kimi Raikkonen in the same way we would have congratulated Lewis Hamilton.
as i predicted on your blog last week raikkonen has won !! my heart wanted lewis but my head said kimi. ferrari worked as a team yesterday , mclaren had to combat in fifhting so only 50% of the team where woking for lewis.kimi not only had the whole team behind him but also his team mate behind the wheel of the other car.lewis was hit by bad luck with his gearbox but also driving errors during the race.kimi won 6 races more than lewis and alonso which is the sign of a champion.the appeal will come to nothing as the chilling of fuel does not give enough advantage to deserve a harsh penalty. most of all ask lewis he would not want to be world champion by default. he is a superb driving an example in and out of the car to us all. 2nd place in his rookie year is a stunning achievment he will just get better and will win many world championships for now lets celebrate his fantastic rookie year well done lewis and kimi
my opinion is the same as david bosleys .what ever happend i new they wouldnt let him win!!
Lewis really should have been winner of the championship. The interview with Bernie Ecclestone before the race showed that something was up. Bernie had changed his mind, and decided that Lewis was not going to win. In the end, it didn’t matter was Lewis did, he was not going to be allowed to win, just consider:
From the grid, the Ferrari cars worked together to box him in, slow him down, and allow Alonso to pass him
Then the ‘mysterious’ gearbox fault delayed him for just long enough to take him out of contention.
The for some bizarre reason he was the only driver to pit 3 times during the race, without which he would have made back the time to win the title.
The powers that be decide not to penalise other drivers for irregularities.
It looks like it was just decided by the powers that be that they couldn’t have a rookie driver winning the title!
no one deserves to be champion more than lewis hamilton. After an extremely testing rookie season and a rocky relationship with his less that supportive team mate, his sporting attidute and his amazing drive ability make him a true champion!
