Hamilton and Raikkonen star in F1 thriller

The furore over fuel which may yet decide the F1 championship should not overshadow a stunning performance by Lewis Hamilton and a clinical drive to victory by Kimi Raikkonen.
Raikkonen is the champion for now, pending an investigation into yesterday’s result.
The Finn stormed to victory in his Ferrari in Brazil yesterday with team mate Felipe Massa [...]

Sportsmen, Spice Girls and smoking: the week in brief

German tuner Geiger showed the world its take on the outlandish Hummer H3 and Ford GT, while on the other side of the world, Australian manufacturer Holden unveiled details of its latest pickup - the 410bhp Maloo R8.
Jaguar showed a little more reserve and unveiled the revised X-Type, and Mazda gave the world official details [...]

Veyron power – in a Bentley

Bentley boss and president of Bugatti, Franz-Josef Paefgen is our kind of guy.
Why? He is the driving force behind the slightly unhinged idea of fitting the monstrous Bugatti Veyron engine into the new Bentley Arnage saloon.

Clarkson’s greatest quips…you decide

Jeremy Clarkson was yesterday named as…the fourth wittiest man in Britain.

Excuse the long pause, but we at Auto Trader towers have come over all Jezza in light of the mullet-sporting one’s trademark delivery and wit - oh, and that Top Gear thing he does now and then.

This is the man who won at the Nürburgring in the rain and fog - by four minutes. By the end of his career he’d won more Grands Prix than anyone else and had three world championships to his name.
This is [...]

Pay-as-you-drive plans scrapped

The Government has listened to the 1.8 million motorists who signed a petition against road charging, according to today’s papers.
Almost two million drivers gave Number 10’s website the thumbs down over the change, which could have cost drivers up to £1.30 per mile.

Giovanardi wins BTCC’s tense title thriller

Britain had its share of sporting triumphs at the weekend. But I was at Thruxton watching a gallant sporting defeat for touring car star Jason Plato.
Having led the championship almost all year he fell behind rival Fabrizio Giovanardi at the final round.
I watched the race from the pits where the tension was incredible.

Showdown at Thruxton

I’m off to Thruxtron on Sunday to witness the culmination of the hardest-fought championship in racing this year outside of Formula 1.
Jason Plato has been hounded every step of the way by Fabrizio Giovanardi. If the Briton can keep the Italian at bay for the final three races at Thruxton he will be champion. [...]
