Ashes to Ashes – best cars of the ’80s

Filming for the hotly anticipated series of Ashes to Ashes – follow up to the multi-award winning Life on Mars – has begun, with the first episode scheduled to air in early 2008.

As with Life on Mars, the cars driving the stars will be as much a part of the show as the actors themselves – and this week we got a sneak preview of a 1980s Audi Quattro from the show.

This got the Auto Trader editorial desk very excited indeed: the Jaguar XJ (Series 3), Rover SD1 and Ford Cortina were named as top ‘80s cars we’d like to see on the show.

What cars from the ‘80s would you like to see in Ashes to Ashes?

Talbot Horizon, has to be one of the best cars of the 1980s. 1.5 litre, 5 speed gearbox, lovely.

My favourite 80′s cars are the RS200 and the Brooklands Capri!

  7. Why do you say that the DeLorean was the ‘last’ car you will see in London, these were built in NI early 1981 onward and I personally know of 2 that were in London Mid 1981 , yes not common but definatley there for people who had money :)

Oh its a TV programme after all, even Gene’s 1982 Audi didnt exist in 1981 :)

With respect, surely a DeLorean DMC 12 is the LAST car you would have been likely to see in 1980′s London. And why, when there are so many available images of Jaguar XJ SIII’s and Saab 900′s to choose from, do you need to pick a US-spec XJ and a foreign-spec, 1990′s model 900?

Definately the Lancia Delta HF Turbo / HF Integrale ! Best car of the 80s !

Without doubt, one of the rarest and best looking coupes from the ’80′s has to be the Opel Monza. The manual version was good for 135mph, was very comfortable and well equipped. The 3 litre straight six sounded gorgeous and delivered plenty of power.
Only 6000 were sold between ’78 and ’86 but sadly few good ones survive as rust was a major problem.
