Just got myself an 09, Orange ST-2 and I love it. Before that I had the Megane F1 230, and to be fair they're completely different. The Megane is definitely a more raw machine, with its rock hard suspension and handling. Unlike the ST which feels, dare i say it, a little more grown up. Feels more like a car than the Megane. The Megane F1 really does feel like a road car built for the track more than anything. Whereas the ST feels like a road car built to live on the roads. Far more practical and user friendly for me. The Megane is a superb car and so is the ST, but for me they are different cars with different agendas. Saying that, I've had more people stare at me in my ST in one day than I ever had in the Megane.

Awesome post, very good points. Just being here has improved my knowledge and I am looking forward to it as a very good information hub, I will say there are hundreds of posts to really take a look at. For instance this post and the replies. I must say that I got the most of the information from the replies here. Points were really talking about the experience here. I love to be the part of this forum and gain some good information. Thanks!

I think that anyones perspective on this discussion will depend very largely on their age. I'm the wrong side of 35 ( but the right side of 40!), and have had my share of 'family' cars.
In a nutshell, CTR & Megane, deff for the younger guys (plastic fantastic!).
Golf & ST, for the older who still have some life left in them. I went for the ST, basically the GTI just looked too bland and was expensive comparitively. Yes most people have skipped the S3 in this, but aren't we talking a pretty spectacular price jump to that?
Oh and regarding 'only' getting 225 bhp from a 2.5 turbocharged engine, I think that you'll find that it keeps the emmissions just below the up and coming £400 per year road tax bracket. These motors are running 300 bhp with little work and a still as bulletproof!

I have a five door sea grey focus st 3, you only have to hear the five cylinder engine even with the standard exhaust the noise is just sex. The car is a hoot on B roads and overtaking has never been so safe, or fun.
The Golf GTI peaked in the eighties and has not really evolved since, Clios for small cars have always been fun from the first williams incarnation to the sport models now,but it is still only a renault, poor build, plasticky etc.
VXR as a brand is good but vauxhall are not exactly the car to be seen in.(corsa VXR small engined with turbo is heaps of fun) The original civic type r was a snarling animal of a car that was so revvy it was a pocket rocket but then they changed the shape and diluted the manic engine, it was like a night out with an ex alcoholic still on the wagon, a bit pointless

I agree with will about the new ctr. I have owned both cars and the new ctr is a better car. Vtec cuts in sooner than the old one and revs 800rpm more and also has closer ration gearbox for better acceleration. Autotrader reveiw says in revs to 7,900 mine revs to 8,200 top seed of 145? I have had 140 in fifth in mine (done on a track day) so think it would do more than 145. Old ctr looks so dated and looks like a breed van! If you want a hardcore hot hatch this is the car for you. ST's are nice but getting very common 225bhp form a 2.5 turbo engine is not that good in my opinion ctr is a 2.0 and does not have a turbo and has 198bhp just think what the bhp would be if it had turbo!!!!!
