Carrying on our music theme from yesterday’s post on singing in our cars, I received a CD in the post from Chevrolet, boasting ‘some all-time classic driving tunes’.
Now I like a bit of rock – Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Jimi Hendrix and Cream all make regular appearances on my in-car playlist – but the marketing types at Chevy had limited themselves too much by only choosing tracks which “prominently feature a Chevy”.
That meant Don McLean’s “Drove the Chevy to the levy” American Pie, The Pointer Sister’s Neutron Dance (Someone stole my brand new Chevrolet) and Eric Clapton’s I’ve Got A Rock ‘n’ Roll Heart (“I get off on ‘57 Chevies), as well as some more obvious tracks in the shape of D.K. Davis’ 65 Chevy and ZZ Top’s Chevrolet.
The CD is part of a promotion where prospective Chevy owners can enter to win five new cars, and the first 15,000 entrants will bag a copy of Chevrolet Legends.
But more than any other part of car ownership, music is all about personal taste. I love what is increasingly being called ‘Dad Rock’, which mainly consists of bluesy rock and a smattering of prog and assorted other tracks.
A quick straw poll of the office revealed a varied taste, but do you think you can do better?
