Beat this - a 1973 orange Wartburg! (look it up kids, it's in all those books about horrible cars from the 70's). Two stroke engine and flat out at 65 - if you could find a long enough bit of road. Still passed first time and was well chuffed when I smoked into the school carpark in it - that is two stroke oil smoke, not tyre smoke.

I've seen the Driving Standards Agency are looking at changes to the driving test and the way people will learn to drive. It's worth a look and there's a forum and questionnaire for you to feedback what you think about the proposed changes. http://learningtodrive.dsa.gov.uk/pages/home

i say what is wrong with the current rules and tests if its not broken then dont fix it all its going to do for younger people is make it harder for them to pass which will probably mean more money. For younger drivers like my self we know how expensive it is to learn how to drive these days and having to take more tests and lessons will just cost more which will mean we will have to work more at a younger age and not spend enough time doing our revision and studies which will also result in lower grades for younger students who deserve to achieve better. I do recommend one thing though that a minimum of 3 lessons should be carried out on the motorway i remember when i went out the first time on a motorway which was quite nerve racking and these lessons should be carried out before you pass not after.

I learnt to drive in a Nissan Micra 1.1 in 1991.
My first two test ended in misery.
The first time I failed because I didn't look left at a roundabout when turning left, and was a little hesitant.
The second time was due to the lack of power in the Micra (you can imagine) when I pulled out in plenty of time at a roundabout, there was just no go in the car.
Thankfully I passed third time lucky.
