Is the Daihatsu Materia cool?

Walking out of the front door to be confronted by a windscreen of ice is becoming the norm now winter’s setting in.
Our week-long loan of new car Daihatsu Materia began yesterday and its eye-catching looks are already dividing opinion in the office.
The daily ice-scrape before work is one of the big occasions when you actually meet your neighbours in London and there were plenty of expressions of interest in the Daihatsu Materia.
I have to say pictures don’t do it justice and I’m warming to its quirky looks in the metal. In fact I thought it looked so good with a frosty sheen that I nipped back indoors for the digital camera and took a few snaps.
Our junior writer Adrian Hearn will be conducting the Daihatsu Materia car review later this week but you can read the What Car? Daihatsu Materia car review now to see what they think of the car.

Hi,
I am a Daihatsu enthusiast from Turkey. In my opinion, Materia may be the coolest car Daihatsu ever made just because of its looks (despite its performance).
It is comfortable (comparing to its predecessor; YRV), spacious, economical and practical. These are the pros.
Its cons:
Traditional stiff suspension and loss of performance. Its performance is still more than enough for a city car. However, its predecessor had the option of a Turbo charged engine which was delivering 130 bhp from a 1.3l engine. Our beloved Materia has a bigger engine. However it is only capable of delivering 103 bhp.
Yes, I know, I know. Materia’s engine is not Turbo charged. In that case, we should take a look at Sirion’s predecessor. Its 1.3 engine delivers 102 bhp from an atmosheric engine with the compression ratio of 1:11.
Conclusion: Materia is a really good car. Still, it doesn’t give me enough reason to give up my old Sirion despite of its good looks.
Best regards,
Umut
