He stepped into the best car in the field, and botched a title challenge by parking in some gravel. Meanwhile, I drove the pants off a slow Spanish family car, also coming close to winning the title, but I missed out due to a combination of no straight line speed, and having set myself on fire a couple of days before the final round.

That was a blunder. For winning the Indy 500 and Indy Racing League series Dario Franchitti definitely deserves to be in the top ten, in fact the top three.

But I didn’t deliberately ignore Scottish drivers – di Resta and Coulthard are both in there.
