Junior Copy Writer Dominic Sacco picked the Lamborghini Reventon as his Car of the Year.
If the car of 2007 was chosen by looks alone, the Reventon would win hands down – it’s already won the World’s Most Beautiful Car award.
When I first set eyes on it, various movie villains sprung to mind. It seemed to be the type of motor Lex Luther would drive – how could something so evil look so beautiful at the same time?
But it’s my car of the year for more than just its menacing, breath-taking physique.
The 6.5-litre V12 engine puts out 650bhp, making it more powerful than the McLaren F1 – my previous dream supercar. And after it was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show earlier this year, its devastating acceleration of 0-60mph in just over three seconds allowed it to overtake a fighter plane from a standing start.
The Reventon is £800,000 and only 20 are being made – which have already sold – raising its elusive factor to something like gold dust. If Lamborghini’s recent catalogue of cars is anything to go by – the Diablo, Murciélago and Gallardo, then the Reventon should go down in history as one of the most remarkable supercars of our time.
