Our Cars of the Year: Porsche 911 GT2

Deputy web editor Stuart Milne picked the Porsche 911 GT2 as his car of the year.

It’s the fastest Porsche 911 ever built by the supercar shamans from Stuttgart and for that alone it shouldn’t need an explanation.

But if you really need me to explain, let me give you some numbers. 3.6-litres. 530 horsepower. 204mph.

Even the 0-62mph time is mind-bending – 3.6 seconds.

And look at it – its curvy lines are packed with pure naked aggression. From those front scoops in the bumper, through to the Turbo-esque fin across the side vents and the double-winged spoiler necessary to glue the rear of the car to the road.

My favourite part of the car is the huge vents next to the Porker’s twin exhausts – they leave other road users in no doubt as to its potency.

Detractors claim the 911 is fundamentally wrong, with its engine slung way out behind the rear wheels. And they’re right – but that means Porsche has to work twice as hard to turn the 911 into a car that won’t spin whenever it turns a bend. It’s simply a monument to automotive engineering.
