Word of a monster Bugatti reached our ears over at Auto Trader towers – rumour has it the Italian carmaker owned by Volkswagen is planning a 1,200bhp hypercar dubbed ‘Project Lydia’.
German magazine Auto Motor und Sport has apparently been privy to information which details the new monster Bugatti – codenamed after founder Ettore Bugatti’s wife, Lydia – which looks set to rival its sibling, the 1,001bhp Bugatti Veyron.
According to the magazine’s inside info, the street-legal ‘Project Lydia’ weighs around 1,500kg and will feature an as-yet-undisclosed 1,200bhp engine.
The magazine puts the top speed of the new hypercar at 248mph – 5mph less than the Veyron’s top speed.
And to highlight the car’s bonkers credentials, Bugatti is hoping ‘Project Lydia’ will smash the Nürburgring racetrack in Germany in just 6m 40s – eclipsing the Veyron’s time by a full minute.
Prices are expected to hover around the €2.5 million mark (£1.8 million), and just 70 examples are thought to be proposed.
What do you think about ‘Project Lydia’?
