Mazda 2 beats Audi R8 and rivals to World Car of the Year

The Mazda 2 has been awarded the title 2008 World Car of the Year.
A group of 47 jurors representing 24 countries chose the winner. They said the Mazda 2 had, “very appealing looks and high levels of standard equipment for the price.”
Its rivals for the award were the Ford Mondeo and Mercedes C-Class (which along with the Mazda 2 formed the top three) plus the Audi A5 and R8, Cadillac CTS, Infiniti G37, Ford S-Max, Nissan Qashqai, and Volvo C30.
