What used cars can you get for the cost of a Kelisa?

Britain’s lowest priced new car is the Perodua Kelisa, with prices starting from £4,499.

Fitted with a 1-litre petrol engine, it delivers 62.4mpg on the combined cycle and emits 121g/km of carbon dioxide, putting it in tax band C with an annual bill of £120.

But what used cars can you get second hand for the price of a Kelisa?

It’s a niggling question we doubt we could ignore if we had £4,500 in our bank accounts.

Here are some alternatives we found on Auto Trader’s used car search.

OK so it might not be the most sensible purchase as fuel and tax prices soar – but, it’s hard to ignore a 2001 Volkswagen Golf 2.8-litre V6 with four-wheel-drive.

It’s just one of hundreds of 2000 and 2001 models of Golf available with varying mileages, engines and levels of kit – all for £4,500.

Keeping it small and sensible – how about a reliable and economical 2007 Toyota Aygo with 4,000 miles on the clock?

It’s also one of the most fun cars I’ve driven for years, thanks to its eager three-cylinder engine and nippy handling.

Alternatively, you could throw caution completely to the wind and buy a 1991 Lotus Elan sports car – there are three available.
