David Coulthard will retire from Formula 1 at the end of the season.
The Red Bull Racing driver will contest his final British Grand Prix on Sunday.
Coulthard made his F1 debut in 1994 for Williams following the death of Ayrton Senna. Since then he has won 12 races including the 1999 and 2000 British Grands Prix.
He came closest to winning the championship in 2001 when he was runner-up to Michael Schumacher.
Coulthard has been tipped to join the BBC as an F1 commentator next year.

I think that it is a real pity that David has made this decision, as he obviously still has a lot more driving left in him. It’s good to know though that he will still be involved and continue to make use of his extensive experience within the paddock as I think that the sport really needs to keep people like David to help navigate through all of the changes planned for the 2009 season. So from a fellow Scot, all the very best, and thank you for all the entertainment that you have given us since ‘94.

I think that team red bull will be relieved about this descision, they will save a fortune on cars, parts, nose cones etc and helmets to accomadate his huge chin.

I agree with all the above statements, I’ve grown up watching David race over the years and can’t remember him having any hissy fits like some people in recent years! I guess it will be goodbye to another gentleman of the sport. He must be in the list for best driver not to win the Driver Championship along with Stirling Moss.

Such a shame! I have been feeling sorry for David in recent years, as I think he has the lower hand as far as the car is concerned. He is still a fantastic driver, just he needs the right car. I will be sad to see 1 of only 3 of our Brits in F1 retire.
