When building brick connoisseurs LEGO asked fans around the globe which classic car they wanted to get their hands on, the Volkswagen Beetle won the vote.

Now the 1,626 piece kit has arrived, measuring 41cm in length and 16cm tall when finished.

Do you have the skill and patience required to build your own Beetle?

Based on the iconic 1960 ‘Charlotte’ model the LEGO model has intricate design features.

The bonnet and boot open revealing a spare wheel and rear-mounted engine.

Everything is as it should be, with windscreen wipers, fog lights, door handles, mirrors, number plates and lights all in place.

Interior detail is incredible too, with a moving gear stick, folding seats, radio and opening glovebox.

The kit is officially licensed by Volkswagen and aimed at customers aged 16 and over, costing £79.99.

It seems to have gone down a storm with model builders, one commenter on LEGO’s website exclaiming:

“Wow. Putting this together was such an exciting experience.

“The model is so detailed there is no mistaking what type of vehicle you are building.”

Another has had the patience to convert the classic Beetle to his own specifications:

“I purchased this set about a month ago. It was great fun to take a Lego vehicle and turn it into a RHD (Right Hand Drive) vehicle as I have done with all my other Lego vehicles.

“All in all a very satisfying build.”

Would a LEGO Volkswagen Beetle take pride of place on your mantle piece? Which other classic cars would you like to see LEGO recreate?
