Subaru Impreza WRC consigned to history as team quits rallying

Subaru's Impreza WRC is heading out of world rallying

So long, Scooby.

Next year’s world rally championship will missing one of its most famous cars. Subaru has announced it is to leave the sport, taking with it the famed Impreza WRC.

Although the team has been off the pace in recent seasons, for me the WRC won’t be the same without Subaru’s distinctive cars.

The blue-and-yellow paintwork of the Impreza became so distinctive that even when the sponsors that inspired it left the sport, Subaru continued using their colours.

The Impreza is a petrol-head favourite and its catalogue of WRC successes spawned a host of special edition models. It made Britain’s Colin McRae and Richards Burns – both sadly no longer with us – into world champions.

The WRC now heads into 2009 with only two manufacturer teams represented: Citroen and Ford. It has been dominated by Sebastien Loeb in recent years. Since the last time a Subaru driver claimed the championship – Petter Solberg in 2003 – every WRC drivers’ title has been won by Loeb.

What does Subaru’s exit mean for the WRC? Will you miss the Imprezas? Share your reactions to Subaru’s shock WRC withdrawal below.

It’s such a shame that this is happening, i’ve been such a big fan of the good old scoob, and the WRC for years. The only reason I watch the WRC is to get a glimps of the Impreza!!

A real shame to see it go. I wonder what this will do to the Scooby fans??

I hope that Subaru will come back to the WRC at a later stage, excuse the pun lol.

As everyone says, when you ask someone to name a WRC car, they instantly reply with Blue and yellow Subaru Impreza!!

    Long live Scoobs!!!!!
