2009 Mazda MX-5
The Mazda MX-5 is already an icon, so it’s hardly surprising the 2009 model doesn’t break the mould. It simply has sportier bumpers, tweaked suspension and slightly more efficient engines.
But this isn’t a criticism. When you put the roof down and drive along a winding road, this MX-5 reminds you exactly why you love driving.
Is it cool? You decide…

Massive yawn. 1.8 or 2.0L with a torque curve of an 8 year old diesel Golf. A car for those who desperately want to pose but don’t have a clue. At least it’s rear wheel drive. Move along – nothing to see here.

It’d be cooler without those ‘Zoom Zoom’ adverts…

let me guess nigel: you’re american and you dunno what driving around curves is… isn’t it so? go and learn how to drive in a kart first.
the car is simple, and therefore is cool.

I’ll entertain the possibility that the MX-5 has qualities I have yet to savour. I do have friends who rave about them. I have different ideas as to a lightweight sport roadster; a Lotus Elise for example. Ultimately it’s personal taste, and this doesn’t meet mine.
ArturRocha, I’m British and enjoy driving some of our finest B roads. I admit, I should try one without casting judgement so early.
