Mercedes E-Class Coupe: first driving impressions

e_class_blog

Our road tester Keith Collantine is in Italy driving the new Mercedes E-Class Coupe. Here’s what he had to say about it:

“The refinement and comfort is excellent as you’d expect…”

“I’ve driven the SE model but now going to find out if the sport has the driving dynamics to match its muscular looks.”

What do you think of the new Mercedes E-Class Coupe?

Watch out for the full Mercedes E Class Coupe review on the Auto Trader homepage this morning.

Well I test drove the 350 CDI sport and have bought one… Fabulous interior, fabulous exterior, turned a lot of heads, excellent engine. Performance delivered in a safe way and not dangerous, something all the reviewers seem to completely overlook. Great to drive… You’ll need to add £5k to your purchase price to get wheels and an engine (nothing new from Merc) and the finance deals they offer are appalling with close to 10% APR, but it doesnt detract from the car which is amazing to be in and drive!!! Shame Merc are trying to rip off all their most loyal customers who want to buy the car early. Hasn’t someone told them!!!!!!

Completely agree Peter. Bought the 350CDI sport with some toys after BMW dealers didn’t want to talk to me about changing my existing 3 series for something else. Clearly they’re selling more than mondeos and aren’t interested in retaining custom or think I should chase them.

So I went shopping! Loved the look, feel, drive and performance of the 350. A coupe, with potentially open feel similar to a cab with the roof option, 4 seats, something different and with an engine of character.

The Merc dealer was friendly, down to earth, helpful, professional and nothing old school about them.

Top tip, offer them cash and they did try the finance again with me and offer a much more competitive rate.

People really do buy from people. Cheerio BMW.

Took a test drive the other weekend, bought it last week (gone for 250CGI Sport + toys).

As Simon says there is some room on the finance agreements if you do some digging and hit them with some figures

Also made the change from BMW to Merc and this itself has surprised me. However it was nothing to do with the dealer experience as the BMW dealer I always used was spot on.

In fact the first merc garage I went to was awful, so I went elsewhere. Basically I like the looks of the car, I don’t drive cars hard so this is not always top of my list. Toys are though!!

Just got to wait 4 months for it to come now :-(

  5. drove new e coupe last week.
    only e500 available.
very quiet, efortless as youd expect from such a big engine, ride smooth, interior black ( yuk, makes it seem small )loads of toys including revearsing camera, rear seating, not good? more headroom in the wifes 99clk.
done away with electric brakes as they were such a headache.
    overall very nice

  6. is peter looking motel than the other’s merc. coupe but the must to but down the prices

Another great looking car from Merc, just wonder why its called e-class coupe instaed CLK ???

  8. bhambra

Don’t buy, waste of money & there are going to be recalls.

  9. Soulja

Looks great from the side and back, but looks terrible from the front. Mercedes really need to work on their grille, especially the lower portion.

As for power and fuel economy, it’s not as good as the BMW 335i.

  10. moneymouth77

Looks excellent, have to see how she drives…
