Car parks can be dodgy places – as crime-ridden as they can be intimidating; especially for lone women at night.
So surely the women-only car park that has just opened at the Wanxiang-Tiancheng shopping centre in Shijiazhuang city, China, should do the job.
According to Wang Zheng, an official for the shopping centre, it has: “installed signs and security monitoring equipment that corresponded more to women’s needs”, which is a very good thing.
But where it goes wrong is where he proclaims the car park appeals to womens’ “strong sense of colour and different sense of distance”
Yes, in true fashion, the designers and architects have drawn heavily on the age-old stereotype that women can’t park.
According to the BBC, the spaces are a massive one metre wider than normal spaces…and the walls are pink.
