The last week and a half has seen a huge amount of activity on autotrader.co.uk.
Not only has the site been improved as a result of feedback, but last week also saw the launch of the Auto Trader Lost Keys competition.
The Lost Keys competition is an opportunity for Auto Trader users to win £1,000 every day by finding lost keys amongst the listings on the site.
With over 60,000 entries so far, the popular competition finishes on Sunday. So if you haven’t already, we’d suggest you check it out soon.
Site improvements
In September 2009 the autotrader.co.uk website was re-launched to allow the type of user experience which would ensure the site becomes the number one place to go for everything car related.
Some of the technology behind the old site was ten years old and we wanted to make sure the new one would be suitable and useful for at least another decade.
Most of the changes were made behind the scenes, but we also decided to bring the site’s design up to date to allow for more improvements which will be rolling out in the coming months.
We were keen to get as much feedback from customers as possible, to ensure the new-look Auto Trader is useful to users and so that we could incorporate your thoughts.
Those comments were taken on board and as of last week were reflected in the design and structure of the site. This is just the first of a series of improvements, as we will continue to make autotrader.co.uk better and better.
The first changes made as a result of your feedback are:
• The top navigation bars have been simplified
• The homepage has been shortened and simplified
• Search results now load quicker
• You can now compare up to 10 vehicles on aspects like running costs, speed and specification
• The homepage loads far quicker
We’d really appreciate it if you could continue to pass on any thoughts you have about the site and the new improvements here.

Nice posting. This article has been really useful to me. Thank u.
Well, I had hoped that by now this “new” version would be dead and buried.
Just spent a very frustrating 10 minutes trying to find an Alfa GTV 3.0 – I could have built one myself quicker.
I thought you made money from selling car adverts, not shoving adverts down my bandwidth.
Adios forever, Piston Heads does it soooo much better and for nothing.
Hello,
The photo browser for a car advert isn’t working as expected in Google Chrome. The image will initially display correctly but if I choose to go back to the image all I get is a black blank window. Firefox appears to work correctly.
I don’t know if the bug is Autotraders or Chromes?

fantastic ‘henry brownson’ it’s about time autotrader fell victim to the particular brand of “knob” who litters the genuine car ads with spurious offers of “59 plate Discovery 3 13000 miles £12,000 ono” then insists on only being contacted via “samplank@timewastingidiot.com.”
It cannot be beyond your team of genius code writers to create something to filter these ads and delete them?
Hey why bother, they paid for the ad…. didn’t they! They’ll write in and ask for their money back……….won’t they??
They’re ruining your website.
I NO LONGER LOOK AT CARS FROM PRIVATE SELLERS.
i will like you to contact me with my email bobwilliams4500@yahoo.com
good day dealer’s i will like to know how much you sell you car…..am interested i getting one.
Is it possible to purchase a speed limiter devive for a car?
