Buy a new car for 99p

Want a new car without the price tag? Halfords is selling a ‘New Car Air Freshener,’ designed to make a car smell like it’s brand new.

Does it work? We put it to the test.

I’ve got to be honest – I was very sceptical about the thought of a scent called ‘new car.’

As much as a new car smells great, taking that scent and putting it in a ten-year-old Mazda MX-5 would just be downright weird, wouldn’t it?

The fact that you have to leave the tree in its plastic packet and expose just 1cm of it each week is annoying, but the smell is worth it.

At first the scent is fruity and strong, but leave the magic tree in your car for a few days and it settles into an almost-new car smell.

It’s perhaps not quite as authentic as the real thing, but a decent substitute at 99p (online price).
