New Auto Trader TV advert

Keep your eyes open for the new Auto Trader television advert. It’ll be on tonight during “Trial and Retribution” which is on ITV1 at 9pm – and it’s on the Auto Trader website now.

Speaking of adverts, some of us went to the cinema last night to see “There Will Be Blood”. At least five of the adverts before the film were for cars, as dealers are gearing up for the big push to sell 08-plate cars from Saturday.

These were the two ads that made the biggest impression on us: Citroen’s amusing ‘unmistakably German’ advert for the C5 and Ford’s ‘beautifully arranged’ Focus advert – watch the videos below. Continue reading

Our Cars of the Year: Ford Focus

Ford Focus

Web editor Adrian Higgins picked the Ford Focus as his car of the year.

Ever seen Golden Eye?

Remember the comedy car chase featuring a fantastic hairpin-crammed road, an Aston Martin DB5 and a Ferrari F355 GTS?

This road, in the south of France was one setting for the launch of the 2008 Ford Focus, and I attended the car launch. Continue reading

Our Cars of the Year: Audi R8

Audi R8

Junior Writer Andy Goodwin’s Car of the Year was the Audi R8.

One of the best cars I’ve ever driven is the Audi RS4. Even on a massively wide speed-sapping runway the German super saloon still felt oh-my-god fast as I pushed the accelerator to the floor.

It was the first car I had driven which felt like it accelerated as hard in fourth gear as it did in second. Continue reading

Our Cars of the Year: BMW M3

BMW M3

Junior Writer Vijay Pattni’s Car of the Year is the BMW M3.

With British boxing dominating the sports headlines at this time of the year, it was almost fitting for BMW to unveil its most anticipated model with one of the year’s knockout figures – 414bhp.

In the world of billion-horsepower Bugattis and fiery Ferraris, 414bhp might seem a little diluted. Continue reading

Our Cars of the Year: Porsche 911 GT2

Porsche 911 GT2

Deputy web editor Stuart Milne picked the Porsche 911 GT2 as his car of the year.

It’s the fastest Porsche 911 ever built by the supercar shamans from Stuttgart and for that alone it shouldn’t need an explanation.

But if you really need me to explain, let me give you some numbers. 3.6-litres. 530 horsepower. 204mph. Continue reading
