The genius of the original Mini was its use of space. The Toyota iQ’s designers clearly understood that.
Alec Issigonis placed the Mini’s engine sideways under its bonnet, and placed the battery in the boot so there was more room inside the car for passengers and luggage.
The Toyota iQ is the latest interpretation of this design ethos and becomes the world’s smallest four-seater.

The UK’s biggest motoring programme hops across the pond to deliver high-octane thrills to the US – swapping Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May for a trio of American hosts in Top Gear USA.
The new series of Top Gear starts in the UK this Sunday with the familiar line up of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.
Meanwhile, the new American version will feature radio personality and comedy star Adam Carolla, stunt driver Tanner Foust, and soap opera actor and builder Eric Stromer.
Britain’s lowest priced new car is the Perodua Kelisa, with prices starting from £4,499.
Fitted with a 1-litre petrol engine, it delivers 62.4mpg on the combined cycle and emits 121g/km of carbon dioxide, putting it in tax band C with an annual bill of £120.
