Whether driving for business or pleasure I try to get any weekend motoring out of the way in the morning – the earlier the better.
Living in south west London means a high density of traffic. And aside from the increased journey times of a later departure I’m also only likely to find out what the car I’m driving is like at low speeds, a useful component of a road test but not the full picture.
And besides, for pure enjoyment clearer roads are better.

Hybrids and electric vehicles have a greater environmental impact than conventional cars, but are still greener overall. Stuart Milne reports.
A new study by the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership has recognised the increased carbon emissions during production of electric vehicles (EV) and hybrids, but says their lower operating emissions means they’re still greener overall.
The report, commissioned for Ricardo, highlights the increasing importance of accounting for whole-life carbon emissions to compare low carbon vehicles. To date, critics have cited often modest CO2 savings while driving low carbon vehicle fails to off-set the emissions for production and disposal. Continue reading

Day one of the challenge, and it’s been tough going! We set off from a rather wet and windy Workington but the weather didn’t dampen our spirits too much. The team powered through until eventually the sun came out to brighten things up.
The hills were eventually pretty grueling though and unfortunately we all have to get up at the crack of dawn and do it all over again tomorrow! 58 miles down…only 114 to go!

One day to go until the challenge begins and Auto Trader employees from across the UK & Ireland prepare to pack their bikes, leave their respective offices and get themselves to the starting line.
Team Ireland set off in style to catch the ferry and coach it over to Workington, with a fond farwell from their colleagues!
Meanwhile, team London try and figure out how on earth to fit all those bikes in to the mini-bus!

Auto Trader has been working to support Help The Hospices for over 2 years now. Last year some of our more adventurous fundraisers climbed the height of Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for the charity and this year is no different. Check out the video from last year of the team in action.
This year, approximately forty Auto Trader employees from across the UK will be attempting to travel the breadth of Britain starting the 16th June. With petrol prices being as high as they are, we’ve decided to do it on pedal power alone. Starting with our wheels in the Irish Sea, we’ll be travelling from Workington on the West Coast of England via the Lake District and Yorkshire Moors. The Auto Trader team will cycle the treacherous journey to Whitby Bay on the North – East coast three days later on the 18th June.
